What is Writer?

Writer is a full-stack generative AI platform for enterprises. It empowers business functions — support, operations, sales, HR, and marketing — to increase productivity while helping to ensure compliance.

The Writer platform consists of the following components:

  • Palmyra, the Writer-built family of transparent and auditable LLMs, is benchmarked on the Stanford HELM, and fine-tuned for specific industries.

  • Writer Knowledge Graph, a graph-based approach to retrieval-augmented generation, grounds generative AI with company-level context by connecting the platform to internal data sources. According to Writer it achieves fewer hallucinations than traditional RAG approaches that use vector retrieval.

  • AI guardrails enforce legal, compliance, and brand rules, so users get accurate, usable, AI-generated work they can trust.

  • A flexible application layer makes it easier to build custom apps for any workflow.

  • APIs, desktop experiences, and a ecosystem of extensions make generative AI available in all of the places employees work.

The enterprise-grade platform doesn’t use the organization's data in model training and complies with SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA, PCI, GDPR, and Privacy Shield. Writer's deployment can be Writer-managed and customer-managed. Writer deploys a team of experts to help customers achieve successful adoption, including onboarding, user training, use case scoping, and data processing. Writer states that its enterprise users currently include Vanguard, Intuit, L'Oreal, Accenture, Dropbox, and Salesforce.

We're incorporating it into our product development process to provide our content designers with the ability to control and produce UI material. We had developers produce stuff on the fly all the time, and they frequently misspelled our product name (among other things!). Or we had out-of-date stuff that would require engineers to change, which would take forever. Writer solves this problem by providing a single, simple interface to our Git repositories.
  • My favorite aspect is how clear and accurate the sections for the many components of style are.
  • They are thought-provoking in the sense that you don't always analyze the significance of where a comma is used or the capitalization of a word - until it becomes a problem.
  • Creating our own language, typical blunders, and prohibited phrases.
  • There is some setup required to get your word lists in there, adjust your editing style, and set up typical errors, but otherwise it works similarly to other programs (but worth it in my opinion).
  • Their web editor loses formatting, which several team members have complained about. However, formatting is properly retained in GDocs, Word, and the Chrome extension. There is some setup required to get your word lists in there, adjust your editing style, and set up typical errors, but otherwise it works similarly to other programs (but worth it in my opinion).
  • I wish it were easy to provide solutions to complex problems rather than simply highlighting them.
We have many employees that write across the organization, from proposals in business development to marketing to the communications team, and the team members come from a diverse spectrum of cultural and professional backgrounds. It's useful to have a distinct voice in the market and to clean up items that don't sound as fluent or clear.
  • Creating our own language, typical blunders, and prohibited phrases.
  • Developing a styleguide to consolidate message, phrasing, writing style, and brand voice requirements.
  • We've largely utilized the extensions (Chrome, Word, and Google Docs), but there are some people on the team that use the web app, which is simple to use.
  • Developing a styleguide to consolidate message, phrasing, writing style, and brand voice requirements.
  • I'd like to see a Firefox addition at some time, but for now, the Chrome and Google Docs extensions suffice.
  • Processes for producing, revising, optimizing, and publishing material have been streamlined.
Helps my team get material ready for publishing as fast as possible It's very customisable and helpful for purposes beyond simple grammar and spelling checks. We can use it to ensure punctuation/formatting consistency, naming consistency (we use a lot of proprietary terminologies that can be tricky to get right), PII compliance, and readability, but ProWritingAid is capable of much more than grammar and spelling. It gives you the option of reading fiction or nonfiction. It gives you the option of selecting a genre. It enables you to contrast your work with that of a best-selling author in your genre.

I have to write a lot of FAQs for my field force and Writer helps me write them fast and without mistakes. Forget writer's block, we all face situations when we face a difficulty writing proper grammar. Spelling is another time killer when you are typing. You have to go back to each mistake, select and correct the mistake. With Writer, I can do all these from my side panel and instantly. So I am confident even when sending my writing to my management, as I know Writer has my back.
  • It has a clean interface and is easy to read.
  • Chrome integration makes my life easier. My organization doesn't allow external software
  • It counts words as well so I don't have to use another doc manager like MSWord to count words when I am in a tight spot
  • It checks as you write so you will know your mistakes instantly
  • The suggestion tool seemed a little slow. I don't think it's my internet as I saw it both from my home and office.
  • Web text boxes created some trouble for me as I couldn't correct my mistakes from the prompt. I had to use the side panel
  • Writer should take note of Grammarly. I really liked it when Grammarly tells me whether my writing tone is optimistic, or formal
Writer is well suited when you are writing in a word processor or Google Docs. It also has its own word processor in case you need it. Writer also says it helps with AI-driven writing. It offers suggestions when it finds something. Either I write really well or the AI is lazy. It offered very few suggestions to me. I think if you fill in a lot of web forms you might face a little discomfort as the prompt doesn't work and you have to make the correction from the side panel.
  • On-the-go spelling check and scoring system tells me if there are any mistake
  • Writer's own word processor is very useful. For some reason writing in it felt very soothing
  • It also gives a word count so you don't have to use another word processor when writing for social media or filling up any official doc with a fixed word count
  • After introducing Writer, to my email team, their response to customers is now much more polished and error-free
  • Writer can add voice typing which will make the process much faster
  • I use mostly Firefox. There is no extension for Firefox. Which is not helpful for Firefox users.
Grammarly is very advanced, but I use Writer as It offers me additional features like word count, a cleaner interface, and a word processor for taking notes.
